Tips and Tricks with Selftanners!!

Heyaa Bunnies!
Since my tanning studio is open again and I have plenty of time to go there, I want to focus on my tan again. The last few weeks I kind of gave up keeping up with selftanners..you just can't go permanently dark without tanning bed. So I became extremely pale!!

Talking about tanning: Since I posted another review of a selftanner, there are also some tips and tricks to consider when applying selftanners..so here ya go darlings..

Clothings
They do matter when you've applied selftanners, because they stain. Some more, some less. So watch out to wear preferably all black, and clothings where it doesn't matter if they get stained. Usually the stains wash out, I never had an extreme problem with it. However it might be shocking sometimes to take your clothes off and the insides are completely brown.
Not only the colour but also the type of clothings matter:
Cover up your whole body.
I knew about that, and still one time I chose to go with shorts instead (I went sleeping).
The result? I've put my hand on my leg while sleeping, the palm got brown stainings (where it shouldn't be) and I had a hand print on my leg. There is a reason for wearing proper clothings.
Also a tip is to wear clothings that are directly on your skin, but not too tight.
If they are too tight, it might push your tan away..(sry idk how to describe, you just gotta have to believe me here LOL). If they are too loose, the wrinkles might leave an print as well.
Black leggings and a black long-sleeved top are perfectly fine.

Applying correctly
When applying selftanner I go body part by body part:
First bottom left leg, upper left leg, then bottom right leg, upper right leg, then buttcheeks, stomach, chest/throat, left arm, right arm, back, neck.
In that order.
Do not put the selftanner on your whole body and then spread it like a body lotion. it is not a body lotion. This will cause spotting as well. Carefully apply on each section until it's all applied well, there should be no darker streaks, it should look as if you don't have anything applied. Blend into the the other sections. For example: I start with my bottom leg and when almost all is applied, I am blending it into my upper leg over my knee. It works that way.
Watch out for back, neck, hairline, armpits, feet etc. Those are usually the top places for spotting and not properly applied selftanners. Apply in circular motions, not up and down.
Apply in the evening before going to sleep, for a stress-free tan over night.

Layering
If you want a darker tan, wait 45-60 min. and apply another coat of the selftanner...it's making you extremely dark. The downside of relying solely on selftanner is, that it's not really a tan.
It's a layer on top of your skin, that washes off and could also peel off.
If you already have several coats of selftanner: Do not stop!
The tan is saying goodbye, you could literally rub it off then.
Also keep exfoliating your skin. It makes the selftanner go slightly away, I know, but that way you prevent spotting and have an even base for the next coat of selftanner.

Mix with body lotions
A trick I used, which isn't that bad but also doesn't have too good results is to mix your own.
Take a random body lotion, the thinner the better. If it's not thin enough, you could also put more water or oils in it. And then put selftanner in it as well. This is your daily lotion now.
The bright side about it is, it's not as exhausting as applying selftanner.
You literally don't need to worry about staining or spotting at all.
I also didn't have any problems about applying it without gloves.
(But I guess it depends on how much selftanner you put in)
You can apply it more often in a day, if you miss a spot you might catch it the second time without it being very visibly. Also it might help to those who have irritating skin.
It doesn't have outstanding results, consistency is key here!

Avoid water!
Do not, go near, water........AT ALL!
It creates so much spotting it's ridiculous..
If you see a place on your body that's developing in spotting, do not wash off or anything...you'll make it worse. Instead rub it with dry hands until it's blended again. Wash hands afterwards.
Depending on the selftanner, it's done after 4-6 hours. Then go shower it off (do not use any products).
Put body lotion on to keep your skin moisturized and the tan shining.
The same applies to sweat: Do not practice any sorts of sports after applying selftanner.

Exfoliate and shave your body
The more hairs on your body and dead skin...the more places for selftanners to go extremely dark.
Selftanners work by layering, so a larger amount of product get stuck in places such as hairs, deep pores and dead skin. The result are very dark spottings in these areas.
If you have a nice base, the tanner will look much prettier and "natural" on your body.

Handling spots
You wake up the next morning and realise you didn't apply correctly on your shoulder and there is a big spot now. First, wash the selftanner off (as mentioned earlier, do not use any products). Second, take a mesh sponge (those for showering) and gently rub over the spot and blend it out to the rest of the skin. That way, you blend it out and it's not as visible anymore.

Tanning your face
Some might be confused: Can I put this on my face? Yes, you can.
Take a plate or something you can put the selftanner on and take a foundation brush.
You can either get one or use a broken one, you'd throw away anyway.
Make sure the brush is dry!!
Pump the selftanner on the plate, take a small amount with the brush and apply on your face.
Here I also go by facial parts. Cheeks first, mouth area, nose and forehead.
Blend it into hairline, throat and ears. Be extremely careful around eyes! It should not burn around that area. Personally I prefer only one layer of selftanner on my face. The tan looks way more unnatural and darker on the face than on the body. So, I only apply it on the face if I feel like it's compared to my body too pale.

Consistency is key
Selftanners wash off and depending on how dark you want to go, you'll need to "create a plan".
I'd say to maintain a slight tan, once a week is fine.
If you plan on going darker, apply every second/third day.
Shower less: every shower, every exfoliation whatsoever is rinsing your tan off.
That also applies to taking baths. I like to take baths but you literally sit in water for a longer period of time...I usually have no tan (by selftanners) left on my skin after I took a bath.
If you want a super dark tan over night, apply 3 coats.
leave an hour inbetween every application. The results were crazy!!

Soo, these are just some tips while applying selftanners...I might add some, if I forgot something.
