caution: picture intense post
edit: This was back in may and I tried editing again in july...maybe now I can finish :)
It was a rainy day and I planned walking through the botanic garden in the afternoon but it turned out that it was the perfect decision actually.
Because of the rain the temperature was so comfortable.
In the morning I woke up early to still have enough time to visit some museums...apparently it was free entry day.
I first went to the national museum.
Honestly, there wasn't much to see in the end.
I read more than I looked at stuff.
There was more focus on building the surroundings to match the theme, showing singaporean history from start to present day.
I think some of the hallways were so fun to walk around.
you can bet it caught my attention when I saw the title "opium smokers"...not only because I am not familiar with opium, but also because often the past gets portrayed like drugs didn't exist or smth and that it's a current problem. It is not.
work hard, live very simply and earn as much profit as you can.
I think it was so interesting to read through the perspective of another country during world war 2.
But also how the british get portrayed like they were heros.
It caught my attention, because nowadays I constantly see the narrative of the "evil white man" that colonized other countries and "took it away" from the natives.
Here it is a different picture, if you get what I mean.
I already mentioned the HDBs in Singapore, which look quite dystopian to me but also has their bright sides I think.
I had to laugh when they showed a kitchen from the 60s or 70s..because this is exactly how the kitchen looked like at my host, just in a different color...as if nothing changed at all over all these years.
After I was done with my tour through the museum I headed next to the other one I wanted to visit, the Peranakan Museum.
I was able to walk through a tiny "park".
Honestly I didn't really look up what Peranakan meant and inside they told me they are not part of the "free entry" thing going on that day..which was weird because it was adverted online.
I still went in and I am glad I randomly chose to because now I learned of something new.
Here is what peranakan means if you, like me, didn't know:
To speed up the process of this blog entry I will not sort the pictures now.
Some of the Batik from the museun
I have already mentioned some of the jewelry is sparking sm in these museums..here my camera caught a little bit of how shiney they actually are.
These Batiks r so pretty 💕
A collection of family pictures, visitors are allowed to add.
Covid is already in museums😭
In the museum was an interesting person...the style reminded me a lot of some pirate code going on.
I had to ask for a picture!!
They were so nice, although it was difficult to understand each other.
It immediately caught my attention!
I was looking sideways all the time and then got some courage to ask for a picture.
I went with the MRT to the botanic garden to go eat at a hawker while waiting for Verena.
Just a simple chicken rice 💕
At the Botanic Garden was also a seperate Orchid Garden we had to pay entry for again.
However I am glad we did...there was so much beautiful nature to see.
Again, I will not sort the pictures...just enjoy the beauty <3
In the evening my host would play mahjong with her parents and I watched.
I have never seen someone play THAT long.
But I wanted to see it from start to finish.
The speed was insane, I still don't understand how the hell they could play so fast.
It also reassured the stigma that asians like to gamble xD
They played with actual money lmao.
I was so tired this game was like 5 hours or smth.
