Day 20: Haji Lane + ArtScience Museum

 Hellow,

Day 20 was my last school day and honestly I felt soo sad for leaving.

My teacher wanted to take a picture together and at first I felt awkward about it but now I totally get why the teachers do this.
It is actually so nice having a picture for the memory.

They made some matcha in the upper floor I wanted to try out before I went back to town.
For my last school day I decided to go to Haji Lane, it was mentioned a couple times but honestly, it is not that special (if I am allowed to say that here).
It is a shopping street, nothing more, nothing less.

this shop is like the prettiest thing I have seen.

I love how depending on which part of singapore you are walking, you get different vibes walking through the streets.
Here it was more the "small town" vibe that I missed from home.
Instead of the arches, they had little roofs to protect from the sun.

Here is a little example of how these arches look like in the black forest:
(taken from google images)
I am not sure which cities this is but it looks like this almost everywhere here.
You can see the arches on the bottom of each house, where you can walk underneath for protection of sun, rain and snow.

look at the diamonds on the house!!

this is pretty much everything there is to it.

ofc I had to take pics of some of the outfits.

the shops here are heavily overpriced (for my opinion), they give that vintage/thrift-vibe but not the price range lmao.
I actually liked this outfit a lot, would prefer with a long skirt tho.
I have seen patchwork a lot here.

there was this tea shop there, where a guy tried to get me in.
At first he was kinda nice and offered me a shadow with his umbrella but I got pretty quickly that it probably was some tourist scheme when he tried pushing me to come drink a tea there.
I tried leaving asap.
A lot of these typical tourist attractions come with these unwanted interactions, I prefer the side of singapore outside of these tourist places.
But well, sometimes you have to go through this if you want that you have seen the "most important" places.

I then went on my way to the ArtScience-Museum
In the MRT was an Art Collection and I couldn't decide which ones I liked more.

It was also the first time that close to marina bay.
On wednesdays there is ladies night, where women can go in for free but I decided against going in.
I felt like it is just a luxury bar on top, with a bunch of superficial influencers wanting to brag they are up there and how are you supposed to make a picture of the typical "sign" of singapore if you are in it? xD
And I was right, the next day one of the students told me it was nothing special and all I just stated was the truth. She also added that there were some creepy men, obviously trying to look for their newest "catch". Sure, if it's ladies night, they know there will be ladies...what a surprise lmao.

But yea, back to my last day.
Walking that close to it was...kinda weird idk xD

I was so confused how to get to the museum!
Maybe I walked out the wrong spot at the MRT or idk but I was walking a long way in the streets in bare heat.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to go in tbh.
I was just so exhausted from all the past days and the pictures online looked intriguing but not enough for an exhausted tourist I think xD
But one exhibition sounded interesting enough..
You know what it was?
Of course...
Fashion!

The saleswoman at the desk tried to convince me to go into the other exhibitions as well but I denied.
I was running out of money and again, I was so damn exhausted.
Walking in the heat in Haji Lane wasn't a good idea for that day tbh.

From here on I don't talk anymore.
Just click on the picture to make it zoom big and enjoy the breathtaking art!!
(again, no order, just randomly inserted so posting this is quicker)

Honestly, I didn't know what to take pictures of.
Everything was amazing.
I wish I could have just taken pictures of everything and post the whole exhibition xD

Here some videos too:

This exhibition absolutely wrecked me.
It was fascinating.
And intimidating.

as a lover for arts and fashion...I am not sure how to put it in words.
I was thinking:
"this is damn talent. This is what fashion art truly is.".
I felt a little bit bad about myself, because I felt like I could never be THAT good.
But at the same time it is not fair to compare yourself with someone who has been already doing it for yeaaars.
Not to mention, I didn't really make any fashion yet and just gained inspo and tried combos when making outfits.

when I was younger I was thinking of studying fashion design (but couldn't) and going through that exhibition was like "this could have been something you do, but you didn't."
Don't get me wrong, I am not sad about it.
I don't think I should have went studying fashion design.
I do not regret any of my decisions.
However it made me realize how I didn't appreciate what it was about when I was younger.
After going to that exhibition, since then...fashion isn't just something "fun" in my eyes anymore, neither some history, it is ART. pure ART.
It changed my view of fashion until today and I love looking back at these pictures.

I tried a lil photoshooting outside before heading back to school for the graduation ceremony.

The ceremony was only for the "real" students that have been there for over a year.
It was so heartbreaking cute.
They made a little collage with videos of the memories they made over there.
I have been there just 3 weeks and I already am overwhelmed just thinking back about it.
These kids over there are 16-20 years old at max.
This is something they will always remember.
They spent a whole year away from their family and friends, learning and mastering a new language (chinese) and gained a lot of experiences with it.
For one student, their hosts went with them (as if they were their new parents), it was the cutest thing to see.

I walked with some of the classmates I met there to go to the hawkers one last time, to talk a bit before saying goodbye.

In the evening I talked some more with my host.
The feelings were heavy that day.
Not just because of the exhibition but also because leaving was breaking my heart.
Just writing about it, it all comes back up.

Look at her🥰
I knew I will miss her as well.

xoxo rinmero
